Spring sneak peek

These past few days have been a lot of fun. A big part of that has to do with the fact that the weather has been unseasonably warm. I am so grateful for this! My mother in law was staying with us for the weekend, but we had other things going on too. We had a nice time going out to eat a few times this weekend – Hoang’s Grill & Sushi Bar on Friday night, our favorite bagel place – Tysons Bagel Market – on Saturday morning and the local Dogwood Tavern for Sunday brunch. These are all places that we’ve been before, but the last time we went to Hoang’s was almost 3 years ago and we haven’t been to Dogwood Tavern since November.  All three places do what they do very well. At Hoang’s we had a huge sushi platter with some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Definitely the best in the area so far. Tysons Bagel Market has, hands down, the best bagels in the area. I always get the tuna melt on a rye bagel…aka perfection. And at Dogwood Tavern I got the Chesapeake Benedict – eggs benedict with crab cakes – with a side of cheese grits. It isn’t the best brunch I’ve had, but it’s pretty good. And they have a huge bloody mary bar if that’s your thing.

Saturday evening I went to my friend Ashley’s place for our monthly book club. The book for this month was The Art of Racing in the Rain, which I read on our cruise back in December. We had a huge dinner spread and a bunch of wine and talked about the book for a little bit. I was also able to meet Liz of Liz White for the first time after being “blog friends” for quite some time now. It was awesome! Oh, and Jessica brought Chesapeake bay seasoned nuts….a girl after my own heart! I don’t know what book we’re reading next month, but I’m excited to add something new to my Kindle.

On Sunday we met up with some friends at a local bar called Spider Kelly’s and played a round of darts. Since it was so nice out we decided to head back to our house to have an impromptu backyard barbeque. The guys made chicken and vegetables for themselves and shrimp and vegetables for me. And we all drank beer-mosas (beer & orange juice) which were surprisingly delicious! They stayed over until 11:30 and it was the perfect end to a relaxing and fun filled weekend.

Last night I went to my friend Kate’s place to watch the finale of The Bachelor. I haven’t watched most of this season, but my goodness do I thoroughly dislike Ben. The man is the most boring specimen on the planet. And his hair. Oh god his hair. I can’t deal with it. It’s funny that for Ali’s season the producers gave her a complete makeover, but Ben looked even worse on his season than he did on The Bachelorette. That’s sexist. Kate had an assortment of snacks – cheese and crackers, strawberries & cream, veggies, tomato/basil/mozzarella skewers – and tons of wine. It was a perfect girls night.

I’m loving this whole month so far. The warm weather, the longer days…it makes me really happy. Hope you had a good weekend too!
